Boards

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is served by two different boards.

   

Board of Trustees

Since its founding Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has been guided by the strong leadership of its Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees, with appropriate delegation to its committees and the Center's officers, oversees the Center's affairs. The specific responsibilities of the Board include:

• Establishment of broad policies for the Center including its mission, values and long range strategies;
• Implementation of those policies through Center management;
• Evaluation of the institutional effectiveness of the Center;
• Review and approval of facilities plans;
• Approval of the annual budgets and overall financial programs and policies; and
• Appointment and evaluation of the effectiveness of the Center's chief executive officer.

   

Board of Ambassadors

The Board of Ambassadors is an appointed group of volunteers whose purpose is to support Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and its mission of eliminating cancer as a cause of human suffering and death by serving as ambassadors for the Center in the community. The specific responsibilities of the Board are:

• To serve as ambassadors of the Center in the community and to advocate for the Center when called upon by Center leadership
• To serve as a liaison between the Center and the community at large, both locally and nationally
• To assist Center leadership in developing and strengthening relationships with key Center constituencies locally and nationally, including government, academia, biotechnology, healthcare and underserved communities
• To provide input and feedback on issues of interest and concern to the Center when requested by Center leadership
• To serve on Center councils as community representatives when called upon by Center leadership
• To be knowledgeable about the Center, its mission and current scientific activities
• To attend meetings of the Board and other briefings from Center leadership
• To respect the confidentiality of Center confidential information when asked to do so by Center leadership
